This is a turning point in both teams’ seasons, as Liverpool currently sit five points above the Gunners. If Arsenal lose, an 8 point gap is likely too big a mountain to climb for the Gunners, and the title race would wind down to City and Liverpool. If, on the other hand, Arsenal manage to get a win, the title race is blown wide open and will be contended between three teams.
In their previous two meeting this season, Arsenal managed a 1-1 draw at Anfield in the league, but also lost at home in the FA Cup 3rd round. The Gunners defeated Liverpool at Anfield last season 3-2, and they’ll be confident of repeating that feat. However, recent fixtures have shown that Arsenal are an inconsistent side at the moment, as they’ve lost two of the last four. On the other hand, Liverpool only lost one game all season in the league – in late September against Spurs.
Liverpool certainly have more issues regarding their staring Xi than Arsenal, as they’ll miss Matip and especially Salah for the fixture. On the Gunners’ side, the only certified injuries are to Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber. That being said, Liverpool’s frontline still have enough firepower to cause Arsenal problems, but the same can be said of the Gunners. Importantly, both defences will feature all starters, making this a tasty fixture indeed. While arsenal are slightly favoured by the bookies, a Liverpool double chance is not a bad play (1.60). The Reds have only lost one game all season, but Arsenal will make a game of this for sure. An Over 3 is also a riskier play but a possible outcome (2.00), as both teams can really pile on the goals.
