The Super Bowl is finally upon us, as all the stars descend on Las Vegas tonight for the culmination of the NFL season. The reigning champions Chiefs face off against NFC behemoths San Francisco 49ers, who make the Super Bowl for the second time in the last five years. Both these teams faced each other in the 202 Super Bowl in Miami, when Patrick Mahomes won his first edition.
During this postseason, the Chiefs only ever looked in danger away at the Bills, while they took care of business rather easily against Miami and favourites Baltimore two weeks ago in the Championship round. Having won the NFC in the regular season, San Francisco played one less playoff game than their counterparts to get here.
The 49ers played two fantastically entertaining but equally unnerving games at home against the Packers and Lions. While their defence has looked worse than Kansas City’s this postseason, they have demonstrated a capacity to put points on the board at will. The 49ers have one – if not the – best squad in the NFL, esepcially when McCaffrey and Pyrdy are linking up successfully.
The bookmakers give the 49ers a slight advantage in this matchup. While for some that may certainly be the case, I have to disagree and pick the Chiefs in this one, as I have done throughout the entire postseason – rightfully so, as results have shown. They have a more experienced side that has been to a few Super Bowls in the last couple of years and know what it takes to win. If Mahomes shows out, It will be mightilly difficult to stop him in any way. Therefore my pick to win Super Bowl LVIII are the Kansas City Chiefs.
