The group of death cooking up two last major encounters, as PSG travel to Germany to face the Yellow Wall. The French side are certain of advancing only with a win, as a draw of loss leaves the door open from Newcastle and Milan. Dortmund need to avoid a loss in order to advance as top of the group, so they’ll be determined to put in an inspired performance. PSG had a lucky break in the previous game against Newcastle, when they tied the game through a controversial penalty in added time. Although they defeated the German contingent in the group’s first match, since then PSG have had troubles in the competition. They proceeded to only win one more of their 4 games, losing to Newcastle and AC Milan away. Their away form could be their undoing in one of Europe’s toughest places to play in.
Dortmund have been more consistent in Europe than in the league, surprisingly. They have had an amazing campaign so far, winning their last three games, including trips to Milan and Newcastle. They will need another good performance on Wednesday to keep their place at the top. PSG will undoubtedly look to win in Germany to avoid any surprises from the other game in the group. They have been knocked out in the Round of 16 two years in a row, so they’ll look to try and get a favourable draw by topping the group.
Dortmund will play without the likes of Haller, Moukoko, Ryerson and Nmecha. PSG have Dembele out suspended, with Lee Kang In replacing him. Fabian Ruiz, Kimpembe and Nuno Mendes are also out through injury. This game really could go either way, as every result has been wild in this group so far. PSG need to win – first place is at stake – but Dortmund haven’t lost at home in the Champions League for almost three years.
