The qualifiers for EURO 2024 in Germany are quickly ending. Among the last big clashes we will see is Netherlands VS France that will be played Friday at 20:45 CET in Amsterdam. Ordinarily this would be a difficult match to call, but unfortunately the Netherlands squad has been depleted through injuries, as they will have to field a squad without the likes of Noa Lang, de Ligt, Botman, Koopmeiners, Frenkie de Jong and Gakpo, all of whom are arguably starters in this talented side. On the other hand, France will simply be lacking in the defensive department, where centre backs Upamecano, Kounde and Saliba have not been called up.
France needs just a few more points to automatically qualify, having won all five of their group games so far, while the Netherlands are in a relatively precarious situation which sees them on the same number of points as Greece in the group (9), but have played a game less than the Hellenic side. It is likely that the match between Greece and the Netherlands in Athens on October 16th could determine the outcome of this group, although Greece also need to play France before the end of qualifiers. As far as this match is concerned, it is hard to look past the vice champions of the world, who will likely field Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele and Giroud up front, one of the most formidable attacks around.
However, if the Netherlands do pull off an upset, we can likely consider them qualified, as they would be ahead of Greece in terms of points and will have already played France twice – they have already lost 4-0 to them back in March. We predict that France will come out of this game with at least a point, especially due to the myriad of defections that the Dutch are forced to cope with, and therefore France will qualify today for this summer’s European championships in Germany.
