The construction of America’s first nuclear powered bitcoin mining center will soon be opened in Pennsylvania. The development comes off the heel of the fact that the crypto mining sector is expanding exponentially, and with calls for a greener method of mining from various exponents now dominating the narrative, this is a welcome result. The zero-carbon data center is a subsidiary of power producer Talen Energy, and will be powered by a 2.5 gigawatt nuclear power station.

The data center is connected directly to one of Pennsylvania’s major nuclear plants, the Susquehanna plant in the northern part of the state. Talen Energy CEO commented on the development, saying “We look forward to advancing our mission to solve the energy “trilemma”, which we define as the rapidly increasing consumer demand for zero-carbon, low-cost, and reliable electricity by data center customers.”
