This evening will see two heavyweight superstars clash as Francis Ngannou takes on Anthony Joshua in what will be only his second-ever professional boxing match. The Cameroonian began his fighting career in MMA, but entered the boxing sphere in October when he faced up with Tyson Fury. The former UFC heavyweight champions has another huge task on his hands, as Joshua has looked in fine form since his split decision loss to Usyk in August 2022. In addition, MMA fighters have not adapted well to boxing fights when making the move, but Ngannou can put the naysayers to rest with another fine performance.
In fact Ngannou, who is 17-3 in MMA, nearly shocked everyone is his bout with Fury in October, when the floored the titleholder before losing in a disputed split-decision. For his debut in professional boxing, not a bad start I’d say. He will have learned a series of lessons from that bout, and will come into this one with new expectations. However, the same can be said about Joshua, will enter this fight knowing what to expect having seen Ngannou’s debut fight against Fury.
This could very well end up being a long fight where both Ngannou and Joshua will land some tough hits. Ngannou’s power with both hands could spell trouble for Joshua, who has at times shown his weakness in defending, whilst also improving in recent encounters. Ultimately this is Joshua’s fight to lose, as this will only be Ngannou’s second-ever boxing fight. Given the difference in experience, Joshua will need to show his presence from the outset to prevent Ngannou’s physicality to rough him up, as happened with Fury. This is one of the year’s most hyped encounters, and we hope it will live up to expectations!
